Archaeological sites reveal that prehistoric cultures such as the Yangshao Culture(仰韶文化,5,000BC-3,000BC)and Longshan Culture(龍山文化,2900BC-2100BC) were active in what is now the northern part of Henan. The first literate dynasty of China, the Shang Dynasty (商朝16th-11th century BC), was centered in Henan.
