Shenzhen (深圳市) is a new city in Guangdong Province(廣東省),China, situated immediately north of Hong Kong. ...
Owing to China's “Open Door Policy” engineered by the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping(鄧小平,1904-1997), the area became China's most successful “Special Economic Zone.” (經濟特區).
Before the economic reform, Shenzhen was a small fishing village called Baoan County(寶安縣) . In 1979, it was renamed Shenzhen City.Today it has become one of the most vibrant economy due to rapid foreign investment ever since the late 1970s. It is now reputedly one of the fastest growing cities in the world, home to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange as well as the headquarters of numerous high-tech companies.
Shenzhen is also the second busiest port in mainland China ranking only after Shanghai. Since the city is new, there are no historical attractions like most of the cities in China. However, it has created quite a number of theme parks to attract tourists and visitors.
We have been to Shenzhen several times. In the year 2008, we went there for a 3-day holidays in order to enjoy various cuisines and foot massage.
